PhD Candidate Monitoring of Citizenship in Primary Education
Job Summary: This PhD research focuses on monitoring citizenship education in primary, secondary, and special education. It involves developing monitoring systems to assess how schools promote students' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in citizenship, addressing challenges identified by educational inspections.
Responsibilities: Contribute to the research by inventorying opportunities and barriers for monitoring citizenship education; collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and students to develop impactful monitoring methods; analyze data from observations, interviews, and focus groups; publish insights in international peer-reviewed articles leading to a dissertation; publish for the education field and policy; present research at national and international conferences.
Qualifications and Requirements: A (research) master's degree in educational sciences, psychology, sociology, pedagogy, or a related field, to be obtained by November 1, 2025; experience or affinity with scientific research in education, youth citizenship competencies, and monitoring educational outcomes; enthusiasm for developing monitoring approaches with schools and researchers; good knowledge and skills in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, with willingness to develop further; strong writing and presentation skills, with willingness to improve; proficiency in Dutch for developing research instruments and communicating with schools; proficiency in English for scientific writing and presentations; interest in citizenship themes and their promotion; interest in designing and validating monitoring questions in an educational context.
