A tender is hereby opened for the award of 1 Research Grant(s) (RG) under Development of multifunctional materials for biofilters in aquaculture: establishing new standards of quality and sustainability, (CENTRO2030-FEDER-02594500) of Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), under the following conditions:
- Scientific Area: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biothecnology, Material Engineer, Environmental Sciences or related areas.
- Financing Source: CENTRO 2030.
- Admission Requirements:

- Other Requirements: We are looking for a candidate with critical thinking skills, capable of working in a team, with strong communication abilities in both English and Portuguese, and with the ability to solve problems with a certain degree of autonomy. The candidate should have an interest in applied research, sustainability, and the circular economy.
- Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro.
- Work plan: Development of functionalized composites for high-efficiency biofilters in aquaculture. The research grant aims to develop sustainable composite materials to improve the efficiency of biofilters in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). To this end, polysaccharides obtained from different by-products will be extracted and chemically characterized. The polysaccharides, mineral material, and photosensitizers will be used for the production of composites, which will be evaluated in terms of the structural integrity of the polymeric network.
- Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
- Workplace: The work will be carried out at LAQV-REQUIMTE / Chemistry Department, as well as GEOBIOTEC/ Geosciences Department of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professor/Doctor Filipe Manuel Coreta-Gomes e co-orientação do Doctor Carlos Monteiro e da Doctor Slavka Andrejkovičová.
- Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 12 months, starting in December of 2026, and may be renewed for additional periods of 12 months, up to the maximum limit of approved funding. Under no circumstances shall it exceed the limits defined in nos. 5 and 6 of article 9, of Regulation no. 292/2020, of February 28th, published in Diário da República, no. 61, Series II, of March 26th (Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro).
- Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1.309,64, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.
- Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: Curricular evaluation, with the option of an interview if the selection committee considers that a decision cannot be made based solely on the candidates’ curricula. The criteria to be used for the curricular evaluation (with a weight ranging from 0 to 20) will be the following: (i) research and development experience in the scientific area of the proposed project, and (ii) weighted average of the academic degrees obtained up to the application date. with the respective value of 40 e 60%. If the committee considers that it cannot make a decision based solely on the curricular evaluation, an interview will be conducted, and the candidate’s final score will correspond to 60% of the curricular evaluation and 40% of the interview.
The committee reserves the right not to admit candidates to the interview who do not achieve a minimum of 15 points (on a scale of 0 to 20), as well as not to award the research grant if none of the candidates obtains a minimum score of 10 points. If none of the candidates has a profile suited to the nature of the tasks to be performed and to their proper execution, the selection committee reserves the right not to award the grant to any of the applicants. - Composition of the Selection Jury: Chairperson Filipe Manuel Coreta Gomes, Researcher at the University of Aveiro; Full Members: Carlos Jorge Pereira Monteiro, Auxiliary Researcher; and Slavka Carvalho Andrejkovičová Principal Investigator at the University of Aveiro. Alternate Members: Elisabete Verde Martins Coelho Auxiliary Researcher; Newton Carlos Marcial Gomes Principal Investigator with Habilitation, at the University of Aveiro.
- Deadline for applications (not be less than 10 working days) and how to submit applications: The call is open from 15 09-2026 to 30-09-2026, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted. Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: Motivation letter, Curriculum Vitae, academic qualifications certificate, declaration of honour (statement of commitment), and other relevant supporting documents. They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure. - Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.
- Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 31-12-2026 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
