PhD: From Burned Out to Recharged: The Dynamics of Burn-Out

Job Summary

Burn-out is a serious condition with significant impact. Research often focuses on people with mild complaints, but those with clinical burn-out who can no longer work have been understudied. As a PhD candidate, you will investigate factors that contribute to recovery from burn-out symptoms and those that hinder or delay it. You will compare this group with people still working despite complaints and with employees without burn-out symptoms.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature research and set up qualitative and quantitative studies (interviews, surveys, diary studies, experiments).
  • Collect, analyze, and report data, leading to international scientific publications and a dissertation.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Provide teaching (at least 10%).
  • Actively participate in the research group and department.
  • Follow the PhD training program of the Kurt Lewin Institute (KLI).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A (nearly completed) master's or research master's in psychology, health sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Good proficiency in Dutch and English (oral and written).
  • Good methodological and statistical skills, or willingness to learn to work with various statistical programs.
  • Strong social, communicative, and organizational skills.
  • Interest in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.

What the Employer Offers

  • A position for 1 year with prospect of extension to a total of four years upon good performance.
  • A 38-hour workweek with a gross monthly salary ranging from €2,901 to €3,707 (scale P of the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement).
  • 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement.
