The Board of REQUIMTE has resolved to open an international selection competition for doctorate holders to carry out research activities, under an uncertain-term employment contract pursuant to the Labour Code. This notice concerns the filling of one (1) position for the pursuit of scientific research activities within the project “The endoplasmic reticulum as a target for pharmacological interventions in proteinopathies”, funded by ERDF funds (COMPETE 2030) and by national funds through FCT/MECI, operation no. 15697, with reference COMPETE2030-FEDER-0067960, in the scientific areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences, sub-area of Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology, under an uncertain-term employment contract pursuant to the Labour Code, aimed at the development and evaluation of natural and semi-synthetic molecules with pharmacological activity at the level of the endoplasmic reticulum in the context of proteinopathies.
Applicable legislation:
Decree-Law no. 57/2016, of 29 August, amended by Law 57/2017 and Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017, which approves a regime for hiring doctorate holders intended to stimulate scientific and technological employment across all areas of knowledge (Legal Regime for Scientific Employment - RJEC); the Labour Code, approved by Law no. 7/2009, of 12 February, in its current wording.
In accordance with article 13 of the RJEC, the competition jury has the following composition: Professor David Alexandre Micael Pereira, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (Chair of the jury by delegation of the Director of REQUIMTE); Professor Alberto da Nova Araújo, PhD, Associate Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, Member; and Professor Marcela Alves Segundo, PhD, Associate Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, Member.
The workplace is located at FFUP.
The monthly remuneration to be paid shall be that provided for in article 23(3) of the RJEC, within the framework of Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017, corresponding to level 33 of the single remuneration table (TRU), approved by Ordinance no. 1553-C/2008 of 31 December, amounting to 2,408.11 Euros.
Applicants — whether national, foreign or stateless — who hold the degree of doctor (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Biochemistry/Cell Biology or a related scientific field may apply to this competition, and who hold a scientific and professional curriculum revealing a profile suited to the activity to be carried out. Where the doctorate was conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of signing the employment contract.
The general requirements for admission to the competition are those defined in the previous point.
Pursuant to article 5 of the RJEC, selection is carried out through the assessment of the candidates' scientific and curricular path.
The assessment of the scientific and curricular path focuses on the relevance, quality and timeliness of:
- The scientific or technological output of the last five years considered most relevant by the candidate;
- The applied or practice-based research activities carried out over the last five years and considered by the candidate to be of greatest impact;
- The outreach and knowledge-dissemination activities carried out over the last five years, particularly in the context of promoting scientific culture and practices, considered by the candidate to be of greatest relevance;
The five-year period referred to in the previous point may be extended by the jury, at the candidate's request, where justified by a suspension of scientific activity for socially protected reasons, namely parental leave, prolonged serious illness, and other legally protected situations of unavailability for work.
The evaluation criteria are3: In assessing the candidates' CV, in particular their scientific experience and scientific merit, the elements presented for the last five years of activity covered by the specific areas of the competition (see point 1) will be valued, in accordance with the following criteria:
- 11.1 Integrated assessment of the candidate's curricular trajectory, based on an overview of their scientific merit:
- I. Overall scientific coherence of the CV - 15%
- II. Diversity and quality of scientific indicators in the specific areas of the notice (see point 1) - 25%
- 11.2. Relevant experience, documentarily proven, in:
- I. In vitro cell cultures, preferably assessment of ER (reticular) stress – 35%
- II. In vitro methodologies for the assessment of protein aggregation – 15%
- III. Bioinformatics, with emphasis on docking in the context of drug discovery – 10%
- Only candidates who obtain a score equal to or greater than 50% in the parameters indicated in points 11.1 and 11.2 shall be eligible.
- 11.1 Integrated assessment of the candidate's curricular trajectory, based on an overview of their scientific merit:
The candidates' final classification system is expressed on a scale from 0 to 100.
The jury decides by reasoned nominal vote in accordance with the selection criteria adopted and disclosed; abstentions are not permitted.
Minutes are drawn up of the jury's meetings, containing a summary of what took place therein, as well as the votes cast by each member and the respective reasoning, and are made available to candidates whenever requested.
Once the selection criteria have been applied, the jury draws up the ranked list of approved candidates with their respective classification.
The jury's final decision is ratified by the institution's most senior officer, who is also responsible for deciding on the hiring.

- 17.2. The application submission period runs between 24/08/2026 and 04/09/2026.

Candidates who submit their application incorrectly or who do not prove the requirements demanded in this competition shall be excluded from admission. The jury is entitled to require any candidate, in case of doubt, to present documents proving their declarations.
False declarations made by candidates shall be punished in accordance with the law.
The list of admitted and excluded candidates, as well as the final classification list, are posted at the premises located at Praça Coronel Pacheco no. 15, 6th floor, Porto, published on the REQUIMTE website, and candidates are notified by email with delivery receipt of the notification.
Prior Hearing and deadline for the Final Decision: Once notified, candidates have 10 working days to comment at the prior-hearing stage. Within a period of up to 90 working days, counted from the deadline for the submission of applications, the jury's final decisions are issued.
This competition is intended solely to fill the position indicated, and may be terminated up to the ratification of the final ranking list of candidates, lapsing upon the occupation of the position offered.

Pursuant to Decree-Law no. 29/2001, of 3 February, a candidate with a disability has preference in the event of equal classification, which prevails over any other legal preference. Candidates must declare on the application form, on their honour, their respective degree of incapacity, the type of disability and the means of communication/expression to be used in the selection process, under the terms of the aforementioned diploma.
The selection of the candidate to be hired depends on the guidelines and regulations applicable by the Foundation for Science and Technology, and on verification of compliance with the administrative prerequisites set out therein. REQUIMTE reserves the right to cancel this competition should the aforementioned prerequisites not be ensured.
