About the FSTM

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine. Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

Your role

The researcher will join the team of Prof. Ivan Nourdin and contribute to an ambitious project at the interface of probability theory and artificial intelligence, whose goal is to rethink and structure the way mathematical research is produced in the era of AI.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing a structured system for AI-assisted mathematical research, applied to the topics mentioned above
  • Conducting research on the design of a methodological framework for AI-assisted mathematical discovery, from idea generation to certified results
  • Integrating formal tools, such as proof assistants, into the scientific production workflow
  • Developing a complete and reproducible protocol for mathematical creation, verification, and publication, including formal certification of results
  • Contributing to the scientific activities of the department, e.g. seminars, workshops, reading groups and schools organized by the members of the department

Your profile

  • Excellent level in mathematics, with a strong passion for probability theory and a genuine curiousity for the new possibilities opened by AI
  • Strong background in probability theory (mandatory)
  • High intellectual rigor and taste for deep, conceptual work
  • Scientific maturity and ability to conduct autonomous research
  • Strong interest in artificial intelligence and its use in mathematical research
  • Pioneer mindset
  • Fluency in either English or French is required
