About the Project

The James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow is seeking a highly motivated graduate to undertake an exciting 3.5-year PhD project within the REACT Sustainable Electronics Programme. The project will explore innovative digital and engineering approaches to support the transition towards more sustainable, transparent, and circular electronics systems.The PhD candidate will be supervised by an interdisciplinary team across the REACT programme and supporting by industry partners.

We are seeking candidates who have an interest in a range of subject areas including

  • Digital Twins for Circular Electronics Systems: Modelling Material Recovery and Recycling Logistics
  • AI-Driven Lifecycle Data Analytics for Sustainable Semiconductor Manufacturing
  • Data-Driven Strategies for Critical Material Recovery from Electronic Waste
  • Smart Recycling Systems for Critical Materials in Electronic Devices
  • Low-Impact Fabrication Techniques for Next-Generation Semiconductor Devices
  • Robotic systems to enable component reuse and material recycling

Funding Notes

The studentship is supported by REACT project , and it will cover home tuition fees and provide a stipend at the UKRI rate for 3.5 years (£21,805for session 2026/27).
