The project
The project aims to use several colorectal cancer models developed in the lab to advance in the understanding of the cellular processes driving metastasis.
About the group
Our group, Drosophila models of disease and (epi)genetic analysis, located at the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida), is interested in understanding the complex choreography of gene expression driving cell plasticity of tumour cells and their adaptation to new microenvironments. We have generated metastatic and non-metastatic models of colorectal cancer in the adult gut of Drosophila based on the induction of the very same mutations involved in human cancer patients in the adult population of intestinal stem cells. We are therefore in a unique position to genetically unravel the mechanisms that initiate metastatic dissemination of primary tumour cells. We have a long-term collaboration with Dr. Kyra Campbell, at the University of Sheffield (UK) and, as part of the PhD training, the student is expected to spend some time in Campbell's laboratory.

Skills/Qualifications
Applicants should hold a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine or similar with a grade above 6.5 (over 10). Applicants should also have finished a Master degree to qualify for the fellowship. Fluent English skills are also required.

- Formulate and defend a comprehensive PhD thesis based on the outcomes and findings of your research project.
