Risk Sciences, as a disciplinary area, has gained increasing visibility and institutionalisation in recent years, particularly in international agencies such as UNESCO and the Council of Europe, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The PhD in Territory, Risk and Public Policy is an advanced training programme aimed at developing scientific research skills and high professional qualifications in risk sciences and sustainability. This programme contributes to the promotion of resilient and sustainable territories and communities. It is designed for people with diverse higher education backgrounds — from the social sciences to the natural, exact, and technological sciences — providing an integrated, interdisciplinary vision that reinforces sustainable innovation and adaptation to global change. It aims to qualify the resilience of policies, territories and communities, based on the joint consideration of various environmental, social and economic uncertainties, and on the selection of critical variables for the assessment, perception and communication of risk in human communities.
