PhD in the long-term history of the European Union's Eastern enlargement
Job Summary: The position involves conducting doctoral research on the long-term history of the European Union’s Eastern enlargement, focusing on East-West European relations, informal contacts, and mutual perceptions from the 1970s to the 1990s. The role is 85% research and 15% teaching within an international and interdisciplinary environment at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Responsibilities:
- Develop an individual research project under supervision.
- Conduct research missions and engage with archival sources.
- Present research at academic seminars and conferences.
- Write a PhD dissertation and co-authored publications.
- Teach in bachelor and master programs at the faculty.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Completed master’s degree in history or a related discipline.
- English language competency at C1 level (academic English).
- Experience working with archival and other historical sources.
- Willingness to move to Maastricht or the surrounding area.
- Knowledge of one or more Central and Eastern European languages (preferred).
- Prior teaching experience (preferred).
What the Employer Offers:
- Employment at Maastricht University with a salary ranging from €3059 to €3881 gross per month based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week.
- An initial 12-month contract, extendable by 3 years upon positive evaluation.
