PhD on Continuous Real-Time Biomolecular Sensing with Single-Molecule Resolution
Job Summary
Develop a new biosensing technology for continuous real-time monitoring of molecules like pharmaceutical drugs and inflammatory biomarkers. The project focuses on sensing technologies based on reversible single-molecule interactions for monitoring biomolecules at low concentrations using Biosensing by Particle Motion (BPM).
Responsibilities
- Study biomolecular aspects of BPM sensors, such as affinity binders and conjugation strategies.
- Determine how these aspects affect sensor performance.
- Work as part of the iControl collaboration involving TU Eindhoven, Erasmus Medical Center, Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research, and several companies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent in engineering sciences and/or analytical sciences, e.g., bio-engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or analytical chemistry.
- Research-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and collaborate with industrial partners.
- Motivated to develop teaching skills and coach students.
- Fluent in spoken and written English at C1 level.
What the Employer Offers
- Fixed-term contract for 4 years with an intermediate assessment after nine months.
- Full-time employment (38 hours per week) with a minimum of 10% and maximum of 15% per year spent on teaching tasks.
- Salary range from €3059 to €3881 per month, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale P.
- Additional benefits including a pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave, year-end bonus of 8.3%, annual vacation pay of 8%, high-quality training programs, technical infrastructure, on-campus children’s day care, sports facilities, allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs, and a Staff Immigration Team with tax compensation scheme for international candidates.
