PhD Opportunity in Chemical Sensor Development

About the Project

We are recruiting a highly motivated PhD student to join our group at Ariel University, where the primary focus is the development of innovative chemical sensors for detecting environmentally and biologically relevant analytes. Our work addresses critical challenges such as toxic metal contamination, environmental pollutants, and molecular biomarkers, with the goal of creating sensitive, selective, and field-deployable detection platforms.

Key project directions include:

  • Nanoparticle-based colorimetric and fluorometric sensors for rapid detection of heavy metals and pollutants.
  • Integration of supramolecular chemistry (host–guest systems, molecular recognition) to enhance selectivity and sensitivity.
  • Application to real-world samples, including environmental water sources and biologically relevant matrices.
  • Mechanistic investigations (spectroscopy, FTIR/Raman, binding studies) to understand sensor–analyte interactions and guide rational design.

Training and Environment:

PhD students in the group will gain advanced expertise in:

  • Sensor design and fabrication (solution-state and solid-state formats).
  • Nanomaterials and supramolecular chemistry.
  • Analytical and spectroscopic techniques (UV–vis, fluorescence, FTIR, Raman, NMR, HRMS).
  • Quantitative data analysis and real-sample validation.

Our lab is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, with strong ties to international researchers. Students are encouraged to present their results at leading conferences and publish in high-impact journals.

Candidate Profile:

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a closely related field. A background in analytical chemistry, nanomaterials, or spectroscopy is particularly relevant. Familiarity with supramolecular chemistry concepts is an advantage but not required. Most importantly, candidates should bring enthusiasm for creative problem-solving and experimental research.

Funding Notes

This PhD position is fully funded for 4 years. Funding includes a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, as well as tuition fees. The project is open to applicants worldwide. Additional support is available for conference travel, research training, and publication costs.
