PhD Position: Cognitive Neuroscience of Social Interactions
Job Summary: This ERC-funded project investigates how socially anxious individuals handle communicative and emotional demands in social interactions using a multidisciplinary cognitive neuroscience approach. Two PhD positions are available: one focusing on hyperscanning fMRI to study neural mechanisms in social anxiety, and the other on emotion regulation strategies during interactions.
Responsibilities: Design and set up studies, recruit participants, acquire and analyze data, publish results in peer-reviewed journals, and handle a 10% teaching load while working on a teaching portfolio.
Qualifications and Requirements: Hold an MSc degree in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, biology, or a related field; strong interest in social anxiety, human communication, and emotion regulation; fluent in written and spoken English; excellent social skills, proactive attitude, and team spirit; strong analytical skills; preferably experience with neuroimaging (MRI or EEG) data acquisition and analysis.
What the Employer Offers: A temporary employment contract of 1.5 years, extendable to 4 years based on performance; starting salary of €3,059 gross per month (increasing to €3,881 in the fourth year) based on a 38-hour workweek; 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus; flexible working hours; extra leave days; opportunities for training and development; access to excellent research facilities at the Donders Institute.
