PhD Position: Discovering New Genetic Causes of Kidney Diseases
Job Summary: As a physician-researcher in the internationally recognized Nephrogenetics group, you will work on unraveling the genetic causes of hereditary kidney diseases. Your PhD research contributes to better diagnostics and treatment for patients worldwide, as part of the NWO-funded AGENDA project.
Responsibilities: Discover new genetic causes of hereditary kidney diseases through advanced analysis of whole genome sequencing data; identify genetic modifiers that influence disease progression; translate genetic findings into functional studies using tubuloid models. Your work will provide answers for undiagnosed patients, impact family counseling, and potentially lead to new treatment options.
Qualifications and Requirements: Essential requirements include a completed medical degree, demonstrable affinity with clinical genetics, excellent proficiency in Dutch and English, and strong motivation for translational research. Preferences include internship experience in clinical genetics, experience with bioinformatic analyses (e.g., R, Python), knowledge of genetic data analysis and variant interpretation, and publication experience. Competencies required: Strong analytical and accurate skills, excellent planning and organizational abilities, proactive and independent work style, and enthusiastic team player with good communication skills.
What the Employer Offers: The salary for this full-time (36 hours per week) position is up to €5,669 gross per month. Benefits include an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expense reimbursement for commuting, and various training opportunities, in accordance with the Cao Universitair Medische Centra (UMC).
