Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to advance the field of 3D perception and scene understanding for robotics. This project aims to enhance robots’ environmental awareness and communication capabilities within a manufacturing setting, leveraging large language models to support perception and interaction.
Your Role:
- Apply cutting-edge 3D computer vision and machine learning methods.
- Design and set up experiments to test and validate your approaches.
- Deploy algorithms on robotic systems.
- Write well-documented and efficient code.
- Develop demonstrators to showcase your research.
- Publish scientific papers and present your findings.
- Guide Master’s students and collaborate with academic and industry partners.
The position is part of the p4MARS research group within the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. p4MARS focuses on robot perception for manufacturing and space applications.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
- Knowledge of machine learning, deep learning methods, and large language models.
- Experience with OpenCV, ROS, and Gazebo.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Conditions of Employment:
- The PhD position offers a four-year contract, split into two contracts: an initial 1.5 years with a progress assessment, followed by a 2.5-year contract contingent on performance.
- Salary increases from €2,770 per month in the first year to €3,539 in the fourth year.
- From 1 September, a 3.7% salary increase applies, with an additional 1% increase on 1 January 2025. Employees starting on 1 September 2024 will receive a one-off payment of €300 gross (full-time).
