"PhD-position in Arctic terrestrial-aquatic connectivity in Greenland"

Job Summary

We invite applications for a PhD position in the 10-year EMBRACER research consortium funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). This position focuses on quantifying geochemical and ecological terrestrial-aquatic connectivity in Western Greenland, identifying shifts due to climate change, and exploring pan-arctic connectivity. The PhD student will use field observations and laboratory methods such as geochemical proxies, biomarkers, isotopes, and ecological indicators in the area between Kangerlussuaq and Sisimiut.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute your own research plans
• Publish results in scientific journals and present research at scientific conferences
• Conduct field work in remote locations in Western Greenland for prolonged periods
• Contribute to teaching and supervising bachelor and master students
• Collaborate with project partners from similar and different fields

Qualifications and Requirements

• A MSc degree in earth science, environmental sciences, soil sciences, biogeochemistry, hydrology, ecology or equivalent
• Strong scientific motivation
• Willingness to spend substantial time in the field (Greenland)
• Hands-on, creative attitude, and ability to work (semi-)independently in challenging conditions
• Affinity with working with geochemical and ecological laboratory techniques
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team
• Affinity to teach and supervise student projects
• English language proficiency both in speech and writing
• Preferably a Driving license

What the Employer Offers

A challenging position in a socially engaged organization with a fixed-term contract of 1 year, intended to extend to 4 years. Salary ranges from €2,901 to €3,707 gross per month on a full-time basis. Benefits include holiday leave, holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, contribution to commuting expenses, and options for hybrid working.
