PhD position in COMSOL Multiphysics simulation for electrochemical biosensors (e-sensors)

About the Project

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate interested in the mathematical simulation applied to electrochemical biosensors.

The project goals are (1) to design and simulate processes at the sensor electrodes based on aptamers, antibodies or enzymes; (2) work with experimentalists to correlate experimental and theoretical results; and (3) digital simulation of impedance spectroscopy, voltammetry, and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance at a sensor electrode.

A team working on designing and engineering a biosensor for the detection of cancers, infectious and viral diseases will correlate simulations performed in COMSOL Multiphysics software with experiments to modify the sensor electrodes with suitable nanomaterials to improve the specific binding between the bio-recognition element (receptor) and the target analyte (protein, peptide, bacteria, cell).

Applicants with a strong background in mathematical simulation using COMSOL Multiphysics or other simulation software are welcome! Experience in the simulation of electrochemical systems and processes would be an asset.

Please include the following items as a single PDF application file: (1) curriculum vitae, (2) description of past research experience, (3) copy of university transcript/diplomas,(3) copy of documents confirming English proficiency (TOEFL IBT, IELTS or IELTS etc.; please see accepted English language proficiency minimum scores for direct entry into academic programs at Brock University https://brocku.ca/programs/graduate/phdchem/ and (4) the contact details of two references (please confirm that these references can be contacted).

Application deadline: August 31 2026

Please, apply by email at aignaszak@brocku.ca
