PhD Position in Emergent Phases in Quantum Matter: Experiment
Job Summary
We are seeking an experimental physicist with a focus on angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) of quantum materials. You will collaborate with a theory PhD on holographic dualities as part of the Emergence at All Scales (EAAS) consortium, researching emergent phases in quantum matter, including the strange metal phase in high-temperature superconductors.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-resolution ARPES and time-resolved ARPES experiments in the Amsterdam lab and at international facilities.
- Analyze data in combination with transport experiments and machine learning approaches.
- Collaborate with experimental and theory team members.
- Analyze and interpret data, leading to publications and presentations at conferences.
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaborations, scientific communication, and outreach activities.
- Assist in teaching and supervising students.
Qualifications and Requirements
- MSc in physics or a related discipline.
- Curiosity about nature and excitement for uncovering its secrets.
- Openness to learning and collaborating in an international environment.
- Effective communication in English.
- Passion for science communication and public engagement.
What the Employer Offers
- A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for 4 years (initially 18 months, extendable).
- Preferred starting date in late summer/early fall of 2025.
- Gross monthly salary between €3,059 and €3,881 (scale P), plus holiday allowance and year-end allowance.
