Application Deadline: 31 March 2026

Project Overview

Join our PhD project exploring how polarised factual beliefs shape public opinion and fuel broader political divides.

Political opponents are increasingly divided not only in attitudes, but also in beliefs about reality. For example, left- and right-wing voters perceive differently the causes of climate change, income inequality, and immigration.

This PhD project will examine how factual belief polarisation influences public opinion and potentially contributes to broader societal polarisation.

  • Apply new and existing experimental methods to examine when, how, and why factual beliefs about inequality, immigration, or government spending influence issue attitudes and affective polarisation.
  • Results will be disseminated in international peer-reviewed journal articles and an article-based PhD dissertation.
