"PhD position in Memory under Stress: Role of Engram Cells"

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated PhD candidate to conduct research on the impact of stress on memory and memory generalization using in vivo animal models. This project investigates how stress and stress-hormones alter memory processing by studying engram cells in the brain.

Responsibilities:

• Complete and defend a PhD thesis within four years.
• Gain knowledge through literature surveys, discussions, and lab meetings.
• Design and perform experiments using behavioral paradigms, viral technologies, electrophysiology, proteomics, and other tools.
• Analyze and interpret experimental results.
• Write manuscripts and present results at scientific meetings.
• Participate in research teams and assist in teaching undergraduates and master students.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• MSc degree in Neuroscience or related fields.
• Affinity and experience with animal experiments, behavioral and neurobiological techniques.
• Good project and time management skills.
• Good analytical, writing, and presenting skills.
• Fluent in English, with willingness to learn Dutch if not a native speaker.
• Experience with learning and memory research is a plus.

What the Employer Offers:

• A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for up to 4 years.
• Salary ranging from €3,059 to €3,881 per month based on experience.
• 232 holiday hours per year, pension contributions, educational programs, and assistance with housing if moving from abroad.
