"PhD position in RNA Structural Ensemble Dynamics (1.0 FTE)"

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic candidate for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in the RNA Structural Ensemble Dynamics group at the University of Groningen. The role involves working on multidisciplinary projects to dissect RNA structure ensembles in living cells.

Job Summary:

The PhD candidate will conduct independent research, develop novel methods for RNA structure interrogation, and contribute to teaching for 10% of their workload. The position includes training in advanced research, courses, and skills workshops, with the goal of completing a PhD dissertation within 4 years.

Responsibilities:

• Develop novel wet and computational methods for interrogating RNA 2D and 3D structures in living cells.
• Apply new and existing methods to map and functionally characterize RNA structure ensembles under various cellular conditions.
• Explore the therapeutic potential of targeting RNA structure ensembles.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Required: MSc degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related disciplines; experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, western blotting); excellent command of English (written and spoken); ability to work independently and in a team.
• Preferred: Prior experience with RNA techniques (e.g., RT-PCR, in vitro transcription, northern blotting); knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments and programming languages (e.g., Perl, Python, R, C++).

What the Employer Offers:

• A full-time position with a salary ranging from €2,901 to €3,707 gross per month, based on a 1.0 FTE, including holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus.
• A temporary 4-year contract, starting with one year and renewable for three years upon satisfactory progress.
