PhD Position in Translational Genomics of Bone and Oral Health at Menopause
Job Summary: This PhD position involves combining genetics, big data, and women's health to investigate why some women experience accelerated bone loss during menopause, aiming to develop better prevention and treatment strategies.
Responsibilities: Integrate large-scale genomic, proteomic, and clinical datasets to understand accelerated bone loss; identify genetic and molecular biomarkers for targeted prevention and treatment; investigate the link between oral health (periodontitis) and bone health during menopause; apply advanced imaging and data analysis to identify women at high risk for osteoporosis; analyze genetic and imaging data; collaborate with international researchers; present findings; and translate research results into clinical applications. Opportunities include attending courses and conferences for professional development.
Qualifications and Requirements: Master's degree in Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field; interest in musculoskeletal and women's health, genetic epidemiology, and data analysis; willingness to learn computational and programming skills; experience with genetic data analysis is a plus but not required; excellent communication skills in English and Dutch; ability to work independently and in a team; and take responsibility for the project.
What the Employer Offers: A temporary contract for 48 months; gross monthly salary from €3,108 in the first year to €3,939 in the fourth year based on a full-time workweek of 36 hours; access to courses via the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES); a 13th month payment in November; travel allowance; pension insurance with the employer covering 70% of the premium; and access to sports facilities at Erasmus MC.
