PhD position on Advancing Personalized iPSC-Based Models for Inherited Retinal Diseases
Job Summary
The project aims to create personalized cellular systems using iPSC-derived retinal models to understand disease mechanisms and assess therapeutics for inherited retinal diseases. It is part of the Lifelong VISION consortium, focused on developing treatments against blindness through genetic therapies, disease pathway targeting, and cell therapies.
Responsibilities
Plan and perform scientific experiments independently; critically analyze data; report results; take a leading role in writing manuscripts; present data at scientific meetings; supervise MSc and/or BSc students; actively participate in group discussions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Must have completed a MSc degree in Molecular Life Sciences or a related field; solid theoretical background in molecular and cell biology; hands-on experience with techniques such as PCR, cloning, RT-PCR, western blotting, cell culture, and stem cell technology; statistical knowledge; experience with coding, tissue engineering, or electrophysiology is a plus. Strong ambition to succeed in science, result-oriented, excellent communication skills, high English proficiency, critical scientific attitude, ability to work independently and in a team, and good organization skills.
What the Employer Offers
Fixed-term contract for 4 years starting November 1st or 15th, 2025; salary from €3108 to €3939 per month based on a full-time appointment (scale 10A); 8% holiday allowance; 8.3% end-of-year bonus; bonus for unsocial hours (47% to 72%); 176 vacation hours per year based on a 36-hour working week; affiliation at the Department of Pediatrics and Department of Human Genetics at Radboudumc.
