PhD position on ‘Automated Detection of Security Vulnerabilities in Software’
We are offering a fully funded PhD position with a duration of four years for a motivated candidate eager to work at the intersection of cybersecurity, software engineering, and artificial intelligence.
About the project: Vulnerabilities in software products continue to be a major cybersecurity threat. This PhD project aims to improve detection methods by combining static and dynamic analysis, AI, formal methods, and testing techniques to minimize false positives and false negatives. The project is supervised by experts at Open Universiteit and involves collaboration with Radboud University in Nijmegen.
Research challenges: Address limitations in static and dynamic analysis for detecting security vulnerabilities, providing automated support to human analysts.
Your role: Conduct research leading to a PhD thesis, contribute to scientific publications and practical tools, take courses, collaborate with the team, and potentially contribute to teaching (up to 20% of time).
Requirements: MSc degree in computer science or related field; background or willingness to learn in software engineering, security, testing, formal methods, and AI; interest in research with practical relevance; strong analytical skills; ability to work independently and in a team; excellent English communication skills; knowledge of Dutch preferred.
Conditions of employment: Fixed-term contract for 4 years; salary from €3,059 to €3,881 per month based on full employment; initial appointment for 15 months, extendable based on performance.
