PhD Position on Quantum Simulation with RbSr Ground-state Molecules
Job Summary
Join the ultracold strontium group at the University of Amsterdam to explore quantum simulation with RbSr ground-state molecules. This position involves pushing quantum simulation forward, investigating novel physics, and contributing to projects like developing a continuous super radiant clock.
Responsibilities
Explore opportunities in the RbSr mixture, stabilize the 87Rb-87Sr mixture in an optical lattice, study effects of reduced dimensionality using optical lattices and tweezers, create weakly bound RbSr molecules via confinement-induced resonance, form ground-state molecules using optical adiabatic state-transfer techniques, and investigate strongly interacting Bose-Fermi mixtures. Participate in network meetings, summer schools, consortium meetings, and spend time in a consortium partner's lab.
Qualifications and Requirements
At least 8 months of master project experience in experimental ultracold atom or trapped ion group; good team working and English skills; experience with optics, lasers, electronics, experiment control software, and data analysis; strong letter of recommendation; beneficial skills include programming in C, C++, Python, Matlab, or Mathematica for experiment control and simulations. Must be in the first four years of research career, not have a doctoral degree, and not have resided in the Netherlands for more than 12 months in the three years prior to recruitment.
What the Employer Offers
A temporary contract for 38 hours per week for 4 years (initially 18 months, extendable after evaluation), starting around 1 October 2025. Includes an educational plan with courses, international meetings, and assistance in teaching undergraduates and master students. The position is part of the Gen-Q programme funded by the European Union.
