Offer Description
What do we offer?
1.1. Predoctoral contract in the 2026-2030 call “Ayudas a la Formación de jóvenes Investigadores CEU-Santander” (link).
1.2. The fellow will join both the “Cellular rejuvenation” and the “Pandemic Preparedness” labs to conduct his/her Thesis at the University CEU Cardenal Herrera in Valencia.
1.3. The fellow will learn Molecular Biology, the scientific method and his/her research will contribute to improve human health.
Requirements of the candidate
2.1.Be a national of an EU member state or be a foreigner with a residence and work permit (+ Spanish B2 level).
2.2. Spanish title of Life-Science bachelor, graduate with a degree of at least 300 ECTS credits or a completed University Master’s degree (equivalent in case of foreign degrees)
2.3. Bachelor’s academic record with a minimum average grade of 7/10 (essential requirement).
Topic
This PhD project addresses two of the most pressing challenges in modern medicine: healthy ageing and pandemic preparedness. Older adults are disproportionately affected by severe influenza, owing in part to age-associated declines in autophagy that compromise antiviral immunity. By elucidating the role of autophagy in host responses to influenza virus infection and exploring strategies to restore these protective pathways, this project aims to develop innovative approaches to enhance immune resilience in the elderly while advancing broad-spectrum interventions against future influenza outbreaks.
