PhD Research in Environmental Science

About the Project

The Advanced Computing and Emerging Systems (ACES) Group (https://research.reading.ac.uk/aces/) invites applications from prospective PhD students interested in the future of how we process and manage environmental information. The group’s work is deeply integrated with applications in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation, Environmental Science, and Earth Science, focusing on making digital infrastructure more efficient and sustainable for the next generation of scientific workloads.

We are looking for candidates to investigate conceptual and structural improvements in computing, with research topics covering deep learning, computer vision, geoinformatics, and Earth observation (EO), focusing on real-world environmental applications. Research within the group may involve designing strategies for managing distributed digital resources, exploring specialized systems for environmental analysis, and optimizing information flow within computing infrastructure.

Please note that this is a self-funded position. The successful candidate must secure their own funding for tuition fees and living costs. Interested candidates are invited to submit their CV and a research proposal aligned with the group’s research for consideration.
