Job Description:
The Department of Movement Sciences is a research department within the Biomedical Sciences Group at KU Leuven. Our mission is to advance the understanding of human movement across multiple levels, from subcellular mechanisms to systemic interactions. By investigating physiological, biomechanical, psychological, and sociocultural factors, we adopt a comprehensive approach to movement science. We aim to bridge gaps between disciplines and innovate through collaborative research and knowledge exchange.

Job Description:
As a PhD candidate in Movement Sciences, you will be involved in:
- Scientific Research: Planning, conducting, and organizing scientific studies to prepare for your PhD thesis. This includes data collection, statistical analyses, and writing scientific articles.
- Supervision: Supervising undergraduate internships and master’s theses within your chosen research domain.
- Teaching Assistance: Assisting with the teaching assignments of staff members, particularly in practical courses related to the Bachelor’s program in Physical Education and Movement Sciences. Previous teaching or training experience in sports disciplines is an asset.
Profile:
We are looking for candidates who:
- Have obtained a Master's degree in Physical Education and Movement Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, or a related field (or will obtain it by July 2025).
- Are interested in scientific research and motivated to pursue a PhD.
- Are motivated to assist in teaching assignments, particularly in practical courses related to movement sciences.
- Have a solid academic background, with an excellent study and internship record.
- Possess excellent communication skills (both in Dutch and English).
- Work hands-on, with strong organizational skills, accuracy, and a willingness to learn.
- Enjoy working both independently and in a team.
- Have a flexible attitude and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
Offer:
- Duration: The PhD position is a full-time position for 1 year, renewable based on a positive evaluation, with a maximum duration of 4 years.
- Start Date: October 1, 2025.
- PhD Program: The research will lead to a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, and you will join the doctoral school in Exercise and Physical Activity in Health & Disease at KU Leuven.
