PhD student DNA repair in kidney cancer
Job Summary: The PhD candidate will work on a research project funded by the Dutch Cancer Society, focusing on the DNA repair function of the Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumor suppressor gene in clear-cell Renal Cell Carcinomas (ccRCC). The project aims to delineate the mechanistic details of pVHL's DNA repair function and investigate the therapeutic potential of DNA repair inhibitors for VHL-mutant ccRCC.
Responsibilities: Plan, execute, and analyze experiments using techniques such as molecular and cell biology (cell culture, DNA cloning, PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, microscopy), drug sensitivity assays, CRISPR-based genome editing, genetic screens, mass spectrometry, and next-generation sequencing. Disseminate findings through publications, poster presentations, and talks at meetings. Manage independent research lines while collaborating with lab members and other research groups.
Qualifications and Requirements: MSc degree in Life Science (Biology, Molecular Biology, or related); experience in standard molecular and cell biology techniques; enthusiastic, self-motivated, ambitious, and proactive team player; good communication skills in written and spoken English. The starting date is November 1st, 2025.
What the Employer Offers: Full-time appointment for four years (36 hours per week), leading to a PhD examination. Salary starts at €3,108 gross per month in the first year, up to a maximum of €3,939 gross per month in the fourth year, based on a full-time appointment. Additionally, includes an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. Conditions comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres.
