PhD student / doctoral candidate in Plant Ecology (m/f/d, E13 TV-L 65%)

The Plant Ecology Group at the University of Tübingen is searching for a

PhD student / doctoral candidate in Plant Ecology (m/f/d, E13 TV-L 65%, limited to 36 months)

The position is part of a French-German collaborative project entitled HYPERSAPCE, which is funded within an ANR-DFG funding scheme and led by the University of Bordeaux. HYPERSAPE deals with the ecological and evolutionary consequences of metal hyperaccumulation in plants.

The subproject located at the University of Tübingen will investigate why metal hyperaccumulation has evolved in certain plant species, and to what extent this trait can be plastically modified by abiotic and biotic stress such as drought, herbivory, and competition. The candidate is expected to design, conduct, and analyze a series of greenhouse experiments with several common European metal hyperaccumulators, and to closely collaborate with other colleagues in the consortium who address the question from a molecular to an ecosystem level.

We are seeking a candidate with excellent team spirit, high motivation, and profound knowledge in designing and analyzing ecological experiments. In addition, the candidate should be willing to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment. The candidate should hold an M.Sc. degree in ecology or a related field. Furthermore, the candidate should have excellent English writing and presentation skills.

Tübingen is a highly international and very lively university town with a rich cultural life and many opportunities for outdoor activities.

The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and therefore encourages qualified female academics to apply for the position. Disabled candidates will be given preference over other equally qualified applicants.

Please send your application including a CV and a motivation letter as a single pdf-file to Prof. Dr. Katja Tielbörger eve-office@uni-tuebingen.de, to whom also inquiries should be addressed. Please also make sure that two letters of reference will be sent prior to the deadline to the above address independently.

The deadline for applications is December 10th, 2025. The earliest starting date is January 1st, 2026.
