This studentship is fully-funded by an EPSRC Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award in partnership with the National Physical Laboratory. The successful applicant will be welcomed into our world-leading research programme investigating key nuclear reactions for both fundamental physics and applications. The aim of the project is to establish new methods to measure properties of Auger electron emission, specifically looking to quantify the number and energy of emitted electrons. This will have relevance to Auger electron therapy, a proposed highly-targeted form of radiotherapy.

The project will involve extensive field-work at major nuclear laboratories, in particular in Finland, the United States and Canada. Skills in data analysis, scientific communication, radiation detection and measurement will be strongly developed over the course of the studentship. This scholarship will also facilitate opportunities for the student to present their findings at national and international conferences, as well as participate in educational summer schools and workshops.

Applicants must be eligible for home student fees.
