Essential Job Duties:
The Philanthropic Research Analyst serves as a strategic partner within the University Development team, fueling the growth and health of our fundraising pipeline. By researching, analyzing, and synthesizing data on individuals, corporations, and foundations, they will provide the actionable intelligence needed to drive the development cycle. The analyst will work synergistically across the organization and unit-based fundraising teams to align research strategies with program priorities and upcoming campaign goals.

The successful candidate brings exceptional judgment, a strategic mindset, and the ability to navigate change with ease. This role requires complete discretion when handling highly confidential information, alongside superior attention to detail and the ability to maximize the university's return on solicitations.

Other Work/Responsibilities:
Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison and consultant for 2-3 colleges or units, supporting fundraising strategy, market analysis, and campaign performance through data analysis, visualization, and related tools.
  • Utilize a range of research resources to investigate, interpret, and analyze internal and external data to identify and assess new major gift prospects.
  • Synthesize financial, biographical, and engagement data to evaluate philanthropic capacity, giving propensity, and alignment with university priorities.
  • Interpret complex financial disclosures and wealth indicators to develop accurate philanthropic capacity estimates.
  • Analyze and segment the prospect pool based on engagement, giving history, and estimated capacity, leveraging predictive modeling and scoring to create targeted fundraising lists.
  • Apply data mining and predictive analytics techniques to continuously refine prospect identification and prioritization strategies.
  • Respond to research requests by developing comprehensive donor profiles that synthesize complex financial and biographical information in support of solicitations.
  • Evaluate large and complex datasets to generate high-impact prospect lists, ensuring fundraisers focus on the highest-return opportunities.

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience and
  • Previous database management experience (e.g. 1-3 years).

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a high attention to detail and processes
  • Excellent listening, communication, interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, with specific expertise in Excel.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic team environment
  • Unquestioned integrity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with database operations and usage, including CRM and other relational databases.
  • Knowledge of public information sources/resources.
  • Proficiency in using subscription information services, especially those commonly used in Prospect Research.
  • Knowledge of software used for fundraising/alumni data and an understanding of information management in a database structure.
  • Experience in fundraising or fundraising support (preferably higher education fundraising).
