Position Summary

 

Livingstone College is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Sociology beginning the Spring 2024 semester to teach various courses in Sociology. Teaching needs range from Principles of Sociology, Social Change, Social Theory, and Social Stratification. Advising for the Sociology learning community and serving on campus committees are additional assigned responsibilities. This is not an online or remote position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chair, the Instructor/Assistant will:

  • Utilizing effective teaching and learning practices such as presentations, demonstrations, class discussion, infusion of technology in course assignments, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery.
  • Preparing course outlines and syllabi in accordance with program standards and in collaboration with the director of the department.
  • Leading and monitoring classroom instruction that promotes educational and learning progress.
  • Evaluating and grading student performance and posting attendance and grades in a timely manner.
  • Other contractual duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

 

What you will need to be successful!

Master’s or Doctorate degree in Sociology. PhD in Sociology is preferred.

 

At least two years of post-master’s degree experience working in the profession.

 

Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.

 

Successful experience with traditional face-to-face classes.

 

Participating in curriculum/program development.

 

Academic advising and degree auditing.

 

Other skills and abilities include strong written and oral communication skills and knowledge of learning management platform such as Blackboard.

 

Working knowledge of Office Suite.

 

Positive evaluations of classroom management and instructional strategies.
