Salary Range: Assistant Professor $75,000 - $120,000; Associate Professor $80,000 - $130,000; Professor $95,000 - $170,000 (based on discipline)

Job Summary:

We are seeking to hire a new faculty member at the assistant, associate, or full professor level whose research interests align with the mission of the Center for Urban and Coastal Climate Science Research. Salaries are competitive and include the State of Maryland benefits package.

Job Duties:

  • Establish independent, externally funded research programs.
  • Mentor and supervise postdoctoral researchers, graduate/undergraduate students, and research technicians.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Publish research findings in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics:

Candidates should have a track record of research in physical processes governing atmospheric, coastal, oceanic or terrestrial systems related to climate change. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the patterns and trends related to key climate indicators such as temperature, precipitation, sea-level rise, extreme weather; a demonstrated ability to collect and apply empirical data in the development of physical and mathematical models understand and predict climate impacts on local, regional, national and global social/environmental climate systems; and experience using remote sensing technologies, and/or geographic information systems (GIS). Candidates who use large datasets to assess environmental change and variability, and integrate physical data with chemical, biological, and social science data to support comprehensive climate risk assessments, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must possess a Doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited university.
  • Must have demonstrated potential to develop a dynamic, nationally-recognized, and externally-funded research program that involves publishing in highly regarded peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience and commitment to advancing climate and physical sciences research are essential.
