Physician - Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Cornea and External Diseases Ophthalmologist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)
Position Overview
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The Ohio State University is a growing practice. We are currently seeking applicants for a full-time clinical Cornea and External Diseases Ophthalmologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care, research, and education in cornea and external diseases at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Department/Division Overview
The Ohio State University prides itself in being one of the largest universities in the country. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has been established for over 100 years. The Havener Eye Institute has its primary location in the Eye and Ear Institute building near campus. We have newly constructed state-of-the-art facilities that include on-site outpatient surgical centers. We strive to provide our patients with the highest quality of care with the latest surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Division Director and/or Department Chair is responsible for determining the work assignments. Each faculty member is expected to perform the full range of responsibilities in the areas of teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of your faculty responsibility, with or without the presence of a trainee. It is expected that the academic mission of the Department would be supported. In consultation with the Department Chair, there will be an opportunity to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives, or other activities consistent with the faculty assignment. Faculty members are expected to teach, which may include clinical or didactic teaching and may involve medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Service commitments will include service at the OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites as assigned. Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected. Participation in local, regional, or national professional organizations is also expected.
Requirements
Due to contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. citizenship is required for participation in this role. Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment and be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio. Qualified candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and have completed an approved residency program in Ophthalmology, as well as subspeciality fellowship training in Cornea and External Diseases. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials. Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management of Ocular Oncology. Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery by evidence of basic and/or clinical applied research and publications. Commitment to residents, fellows, and medical students is required.
