Job Summary
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine is seeking a Section Chief of Advanced Endoscopy within the Division of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition. The successful candidate will possess a distinguished record of achievement in academic medicine and interventional gastroenterology, demonstrating exceptional clinical and scholarly accomplishments that prepare them to lead a high-volume clinical program and foster academic growth. The Section Chief reports to the Division Chief and collaborates closely with leadership across the health system and the College of Medicine.
Appointment criteria include demonstrated emotional intelligence and a proven ability to deliver outstanding patient care while educating future leaders in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy, as well as supporting faculty development at all levels. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished academic physician with a record of excellence in advanced endoscopy and mentorship. The ability to build and lead a diverse team; and success in promoting scholarship and clinical excellence. Prior experience as a Section Chief, Medical Director, Program Director, or leadership within national societies or journals—or a history of obtaining extramural funding or directing clinical trials—is highly desirable.
- Provide clinical leadership for advanced endoscopy services, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to best practices.
- Oversee and perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including ERCP, EUS, EMR, POEM, and deep enteroscopy.
- Supervise and mentor faculty, fellows, residents, and advanced endoscopy trainees, fostering academic and professional growth.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for program growth, innovation, and operational efficiency within the division.
- Collaborate with hospital administration, nursing, and anesthesia teams to optimize patient access, scheduling, and resource utilization.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives, monitor safety and performance metrics, and enforce clinical protocols.
- Maintain inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities, including consultations and advanced therapeutic procedures.
