At Student Health Services (SHS) our mission is to foster positive patient outcomes by providing professional medical and psychiatric services for Augusta University students.
Job Summary
Provide healthcare services to patients and perform a variety of duties in the assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the ambulatory clinic setting.
Responsibilities
PROVIDE CARE: Provide primary medical care to patients who present to the Student Health Clinic for acute/urgent symptoms and those seeking routine medical care through effective history taking, physical assessment, and determination of appropriate differential diagnoses based on clinical guidelines. Provide telehealth services via an approved platform to the patient population of Student Health Services.
DIAGNOSE: Based on patients' subjective and objective findings, order appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures in order to create a differential diagnosis. Develop an applicable treatment plan and disposition that is consistent with clinical care best practice guidelines. Participate in e-prescribing as a capability in serving the patient population of Student Health Services.
HEALTH EDUCATION: Provide patients with applicable health education and prevention information based on age-specific guidelines, regarding medications, mistreatments, anticipated outcomes, and referrals.
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES: Participate in departmental activities that are not direct patient care, such as working on policies and procedures, developing nursing standing orders, working with leadership on risk management and other quality improvement activities, working on compliance with applicable clinical and administrative accreditation standards, and participation in departmental and division meetings and activities, as requested. Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director and Director of Student Health Services or the University.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university's school of medicine/osteopathic medicine and an internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or emergency medicine residency program with an active and unrestricted physician license in the state of Georgia. Board eligible or Board certified in the medical discipline as trained (listed above). Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS certification or obtain within the first year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an ambulatory care setting, preferably with a college-age population. Experience in providing gender-based healthcare and patient health education. Experience working in a team of health care providers, and managing low acuity mental health diagnoses and treatment plans. Experience using electronic health records, PDMP, and e-prescribing. Experience with managing bloodborne pathogen exposures and prophylaxis management.
