Piano Technician
Job Summary
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music invites applications for an ongoing 12-month staff position as a part-time Piano Technician starting in summer 2026. This role will help support the department in its maintenance of 150+ pianos in the Humanities Building and Hamel Music Center.
This staff position will work closely with the Head Piano Technician to tune, maintain, and repair pianos for purposes of practice, instruction, and performance by students, faculty, and guest artists. The person in this position will be expected to work a 23.2-hour week (58% FTE) according to a schedule based on the needs of the unit and the individual's preferences. Work will generally take place during regular business hours but occasional evening or weekend hours will be required for concert support as needed.
This position is expected to start in summer 2026 with orientation and training before the start of the academic year.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Engages outside vendors for repairs when necessary
- May train and/or supervise student workers
- Assesses instrument inventory and ensures that parts are available for repairs
- Repairs, regulates, tunes, and maintains musical instruments
