Plant Maintenance Engineer
This position exists to ensure a safe, comfortable and environmentally sound operation of all College buildings by providing for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of heating, cooling and other mechanical systems. This position is directly responsible for the operation of the energy management system. This position exists to perform skilled maintenance, inspection, and repair of mechanical systems, and to provide related technical assistance and advice in developing building plans and standards, and to establish preventative maintenance procedures for HVAC systems and equipment. May direct and inspect the work of contractors to ensure work complies with specifications, standards and codes. This position carries the responsibility of off-duty hourly call back if emergency conditions occur. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Daily operate and monitor the campus heating, cooling and ventilating systems and components, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air-cooled condensing units, air handling units, pumps, converters, and other auxiliary equipment, so that the utmost efficiency and economy of operation is maintained and the environment is within acceptable parameters. Carry out a program of preventative maintenance and repairs so that equipment is properly maintained to minimize equipment downtime and maximum efficiency. Have knowledge of maintenance and service contract agreements and monitor vendor performance on heating/cooling, water treatment, elevators, and other mechanical equipment. Cooperate and supervise vendors of service contracts so that the College receives proper services and the equipment is inspected and maintained. To work with water treatment contractor/vendor to monitor and administer chemicals to closed loop hot and chilled water system so that the water being treated will not contaminate or deteriorate the systems. Review plans, blueprints, and specifications and prepares sketches, plans and material lists for HVAC projects to understand the scope of the project and to recommend changes by reading the plans, blueprints, and specifications and discussing them with Building Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facilities; by researching the plans and specifications of previously completed projects; and by defining the detailed tasks of the project and laying out work. Order and maintain materials, supplies and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment; by ensuring an adequate inventory for immediate repair needs, as well as upcoming projects; by notifying supervisor of significant upcoming purchases and expenditures of funds for materials, supplies and tools; by properly maintaining hand and power tools to ensure their safe, efficient use for current and future projects. Perform as a safe and efficient team member of the Facilities Department so that all the goals of the department are met.
Salary Range: $33.57 - $38.98 / hourly; $70,094 - $81,390 / annually
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Boiler Engineer’s License. Knowledge of building mechanical systems, and the ability to maintain and operate a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment, with the ability to diagnose problems and perform basic repairs. Considerable knowledge of safety practices, applications and procedures. Demonstrates an effort to improve cultural competence and actively takes steps to include diversity training professional development. Preferred Qualification: Regularly engage in bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and maneuvering tasks. Navigate uneven terrains while moving from place to place. Maintain seated or standing positions for prolonged duration. Frequently transport heavy equipment across campus property.
