Required Qualifications:
- Intermediate-level knowledge of mechanical concepts: rotating equipment, centrifugal pumps, piping, electric motors, chillers, boilers, refrigeration, air conditioning systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and electrical control systems, 3-phase 480V equipment, water chemical analysis, energy conservation technologies.
- Knowledge of electrical generation principles, internal combustion engines, power generation equipment, NFPA 110 codes, chemical safety protocols, Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Skilled in using computers for work orders, and timecards.
- Ability to operate Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels, document equipment readings, and receive parts from vendors.
- Ability to work in confined spaces safely, utilizing spatial awareness for detecting plant issues.
- Competency in reading technical documents, SOPs, equipment manuals, and performing basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to use specialized measuring devices, modify equipment for reliability and efficiency, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess an EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification.
Job Description:
The Plant Mechanic II is responsible for the inspection, repair and troubleshooting mechanical equipment in the Central, East, West, and South thermal plants along with various satellite areas of responsibilities.
Job Duties:
- Oversee the inspection repair and lubrication of pumps, and motors at Plants.
- Troubleshoot, repair boilers and heat exchangers. Up to 50,000 pounds.
- Inspect and service forty emergency generators on campus.
- Change the oil in cooling tower fans, inspect tower fans, gear boxes and support structure.
- Troubleshoot, repair, service 550-to-2500-ton Centrifugal chillers in all plants.
- Service and maintain sand filters, reverse osmosis units and water softeners.
- Troubleshoot and service all air compressors and air dryers make repair, as necessary.
- Inspect Condensate and DA Tanks.
- Troubleshoot steam regulators and steam traps.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Information to Applicants:
Monthly, the applicant will be required to be on-call outside of regular working hours and must also be available to work extended hours for special events or to meet critical project deadlines.
