Plumber II
Job Description
Perform preventive maintenance, repair, replacement and installation on plumbing systems and fixtures such as, but not limited to, water heaters, sink faucets, water closets, dishwashers, water coolers, boilers, and chill water piping. Respond to emergency call back, subject to being placed on-call.
Responsibilities
- Operating Equipment - 20%: Operate tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, power tools, sewer machines, pipe cutters, thread machines, mini excavator and/or backhoe equipment.
- Inspection - 10%: Inspect, test and repair plumbing systems including, but not limited to, swimming pool and pool equipment, back flow prevention devices, water circulating systems, and chemical feed systems.
- Compliance - 5%: Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes workplace safety.
- Repairing - 40%: Repair and replace plumbing systems including, but not limited to, pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and steam and condensate pipes, hot water pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, sewage pumps, gas piping, water lines and irrigation.
- Installing - 20%: Install and maintain a variety of plumbing systems such as, but not limited to, sanitary waste, storm drains, water distribution, irrigation, fire sprinkler systems, air lines, gas piping and steam piping.
- Other - 5%: Perform other duties as required to meet the goals of the Department, Division, and Georgia College & State University.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED
- Other Required Qualifications: Valid Driver's License
- Required Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in plumbing installation, repair and maintenance or an equivalent combination of education (vocational or technical training) and experience. Georgia Statewide Back-flow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification or must be able to take and pass certification program. Certified Pool & Spa Operator Certification or must be able to take and pass certification program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional Preferred Qualifications: State of Georgia Journeyman, restricted Master or unrestricted Master plumbing license. Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level 1A Certification.
- Preferred Educational Qualifications: Certification or diploma from trade school or technical college.
- Preferred Experience: Experience with commercial or industrial plumbing systems.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Abilities: Always maintain safety procedures to avoid injury. May spend long hours in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain. Ability to lift and/or adjust heavy objects (up to 50lbs unassisted); will encounter hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment; may come into contact with air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids. Work in an outdoor environment and may not be protected from extreme cold and hot weather conditions; frequently required to work in locations such as crawlspaces, shafts, manholes, sewage and water line pipes and other confined spaces. Frequently working from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding at heights greater than 30ft.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of a variety of plumbing systems such as, but not limited to, sanitary waste, storm drains, water distribution, irrigation, fire sprinkler systems, air lines, gas piping and steam piping.
- Skills: Computer skills for entering, updating and completing work orders, along with email use.
