Position Summary
This is manual work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems. Work involves performance of skilled plumbing tasks in maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of fixtures and equipment. Routine maintenance, service, and repair work is performed independently. Assignments are normally received orally or through written work orders. Work is inspected on completion for conformity to instructions and quality of work.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Can read and interpret building plans, sketches, building schematics, and blueprints.
- Knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and components.
- Can read and understand oral and written instructions.
Physical Demands
- Bend, stoop, stand, squat, work with hands above head, work from a standard and/or extended ladder and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout the day.
- Work in a very limited space and/or cramped areas.
- Work under adverse weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain).

Duties/Responsibilities
- Repairs and inserts valves and ball cocks, packs faucets, repairs waste, sewage, and drainage pipes, replaces broken fixtures and installs new fixtures, caulks and packs joints. (30%)
- Cleans out drains and obstructions in waste and sewage pipes. (20%)
- Repairs broken valves, service pipes, and drinking fountains. (20%)
- Operates pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sewer tapes, cables, and other plumbing tools and equipment. (20%)
- Keeps records of work and repairs. (5%)
- Performs related work. (5%)
