About our team | Mō te tīma

The National Poisons Centre is a specialised unit dedicated to providing poisoning assessment and treatment advice to the entire population of New Zealand that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is part of the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.

The role | Te mahi

As a Poisons Information Officer, you will:
• Handle telephone-based poisoning enquiries from both health professionals and the general public about acute poisoning or the toxic effects of chemicals and other substances.
• Prepare clinically oriented poisons information documents.
• Contribute to toxicovigilance and poisoning prevention activities.
• Be involved with other activities of the Centre in relation to its supply of information to various sectors of the community.

Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful candidates must possess a health science or biological science degree, preferably in pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacy, or nursing.

A comprehensive knowledge of toxicology and prior clinical or healthcare-related experience would be a distinct advantage.

Additional to the above, we are looking for someone who:
• Possess’ excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
• Displays a high sense of self-motivation.
• Has established and effective computer skills.
• Has the ability to participate in a 24-hour roster including night, weekend, and public holiday work.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Participation in a 24/7 roster (working a share of nights, weekends, and public holidays) is required, for which a salary loading applies.

The salary level for this position is $75,631 to $80,503, Top of Range $88,750.

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this role.

We offer competitive salary, five weeks’ annual leave and a 6.75% superannuation scheme.
