Description:
Manages the personnel and resources of a section of the University of Houston Police Department, which include Patrol, Special Services, Training or Records. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
- Manages all activities and personnel of the assigned section.
- Supervises personnel, to include training, development and evaluation of performance.
- Coordinates with other section Lieutenants to ensure department goals and objectives are met.
- Manages and monitors the section budget.
- Investigates internal and external complaints against UHPD personnel.
- Serves as liaison to university departments and other law enforcement agencies.
- Prepares a variety of recurring reports for management use.
- Participates in periodic training as required.
- Performs other job-related duties are assigned.
MQ: Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis and interpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainable through specific education and/or training programs in a specialty or technical field. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or a basic knowledge of a professional field is required. An Associate's degree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty program of over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristic of this field.
Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum. Experience can be considered in lieu of education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.
The applicant must be TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) certified.
Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver's License check prior to an interview.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime assignments.
Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

The applicant must have successfully completed a TCOLE basic licensing course and passed the TCOLE licensing examination, or be within 45 days of completion of a TCOLE recognized basic peace officer licensing course.
Salary will be based on years of experience
Additional Job Prerequisites:
Candidate for hire must have/or be able to obtain a Texas Driver's License at the time of a bona fide job offer. An applicant is required to pass multiple phases: i.e.:
- Multiple types of reviews
- Tests (oral and written)
- Background check clearance
Applicants who do not pass their entrance exam will be eligible to re-test in 30 days, up to three tries. After three attempts, the applicant will be eligible to re-apply after three months, if there is a Police Officer job posted.
