Job Summary
The position is responsible for assisting in directing the public safety operations of Gordon State College.
Responsibilities
- Manages department personnel in the provision of services to students, faculty, staff, parents and visitors.
- Oversees the department’s Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) operations; maintains Terminal Agency Coordinator certification.
- Answers telephones and dispatches officers and student workers to assist students and college employees.
- Takes police reports.
- Directs the college’s parking operations, overseas the processing of fees, fines and vehicle registrations.
- Processes criminal history for other college departments.
- Reviews daily police reports.
- Develops and presents training instruction to staff and other campus constituencies.
- Responds to critical incidents.
- Manages and maintains all public safety equipment and software programs.
- Directs the investigation of reported crimes.
- Assists the Chief of Police in the planning for special events.
- Analyzes department personnel, policies, and trends and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Maintains officer training records, coordinates opportunities for officer training.
- Prepares the NIBRS (National Incident Based Reporting System) reporting.
- Conducts reviews of body worn cameras for all Department personnel.
- Assists the Chief of Police in reviewing and approving department payroll.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Five years (5) of continuous full-time service as a P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer.
- Three years (3) of supervisory experience at the level of sergeant or above.
- Must possess a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain GCIC/NCIC certification.
- Must be able to successfully pass the following background checks: Position of Trust + Credit Check, Motor Vehicle Record, Physical Examination, Drug Testing, Psychological Evaluation.

- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) staff position and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
