Founded in 2018, the Office of Compliance and Ethics (OCE) provides oversight and guidance across the university in the areas of compliance and ethics. The OCE provides centralized and coordinated oversight through the ongoing development of effective policies and procedures, education, training, monitoring, communication, and response to reported issues. The mission of the Office is to support and promote a culture of compliance, ethics, and accountability through its institutional compliance and ethics program. Responsibilities
The Policy and Compliance Intern will work under the supervision of the Compliance Program Manager, Education & Outreach who provides holistic support and leadership on a variety of departmental initiatives and duties. The intern will contribute to the application of Florida laws and regulations that govern institutions of higher education, conduct pre-employment foreign researcher screenings, and support the OCE’s variety of education and outreach campaigns.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitor general email inbox and triage, process, and organize emails related to state screenings pursuant to §§1010.35 and 288.860, F.S. and OCE outreach
- Complete initial substantive review of newly assigned state screenings including (but not limited to) passport, education verification, funding, and employment history; identify and flag issues for escalation to and processing by Compliance Program Manager and Director of International Affairs Compliance
- Annotate and document efforts and details in internal spreadsheet and systems for state screening process
- Support the processing of state screenings such as sending follow up emails and requesting clarifications in internal system
- Support compliance outreach efforts by generating content for social media, email campaigns, and OCE newsletter
- Attend and support OCE outreach and other OCE related events
- Work with the Compliance Program Manager to support OCE educational and training initiatives including (but not limited to) designing presentations, activities, and informational documents and conducting tabling or presentations
- Other duties as assigned by the Compliance Program Manager
Qualifications
High school diploma and equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills
- High level of attention to detail and ability to organize
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Interest in compliance, ethics, legal studies, public policy, or risk management
- Preferred: Experience working with a variety of employees.
