Polysomnographic Technologist - Neurology
Position Summary
Works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. Functions independently of direct supervision to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. Supervises or supports the activities of other technical staff. Applies the application of recording devices to the patient, cleaning/sterilization of equipment and monitoring of polysomnograms. Recognize sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and responds with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Sets up, calibrates and monitors recording equipment necessary for PSG, MSLT, MAD, INSPIRE, and PAP Tiration to ensure artifact free tracings.
- Recognizes and records clinical and physiological relevant events.
- Detects and corrects equipment malfunctions.
- Interprets polysomnogram data.
- Interviews patients to obtain sleep history.
- Handles phone calls; answers questions for patients and physicians.
- Prepares for patients in high-risk situations, as with cardiac or pulmonary problems.
- Aids in the training of new trainees.
- Supervises and coordinates activities of other outpatients.
- Checks inventories and order supplies as needed.
- Assists with general maintenance and organization of the lab area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications:

Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) - American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)

Required Qualifications:
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range
$25.30 - $37.94 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
