POSITION DESCRIPTION
The primary function of this position is skilled work in the operation of a 40' Tour Bus. This position will transport athletic teams to instate and out-of-state athletic contests.
Candidate must demonstrate the ability and willingness to travel long distances, and work nights and weekends. Also, demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals. Must maintain a positive and cooperative attitude towards performing the duties of the job
Minimum Classification Requirements
Minimum Qualification are not established for this classification. The appointing authority is responsible for recruitment and selection. Refer to Personnel Rule 105-43-005.
Position Specific Minimum Qualification
Must possess a State of Oregon Class C CDL License.
Required Endorsements
- Passenger Endorsement
- Air Brake Endorsement
- Minimum 1 year experience driving large passenger vehicles, school buses, or commercial motor-coach.
Preferred Requirements
- 3+ Years experience driving large passenger vehicles, school buses or commercial motor-coach.
- Excellent knowledge of Pacific Northwest driving routes
- Previous experience working with a diverse population, or in an education setting.
Essential Functions
Duties - The following examples are typical work activities that are meant to illustrate the general range of work functions and are not meant to be all-inclusive or restrictive:
(85%) Essential Duties
- Works with athletic staff on predetermined route for upcoming travel.
- Transport athletic teams to in-state and out-of-state athletic contests.
- Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers.
- Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety of passenger in loading, unloading and transporting.
- Instructs passengers in safety precautions and practices.
- Inspects and sweeps bus. Checks water. gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on a trip.
- Reports delays and accidents.
(10%) Record Keeping and Compliance
- Keeps operational records and makes simple reports.
- Works with athletics staff to assure bus meets regular maintenance schedules.
- Reports defects or problems with supervisor.
(5%) Duties Include
- Additional duties as directed by supervisor.

- Excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.

- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents.
- Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition.
- Ability to relate to students and school system personnel.
- Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, incident and accident reports.
Physical Demands
Candidate must provide documentation of a medical examination completed within the last 12 months with an approved U.S. Department of Transportation Certified Medical Examiner. May be requested annually at the universities discretion.
Special Conditions
- Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
- Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
- This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- The person holding this position is considered a mandatory reporter under the Oregon Revised Statutes and is required to comply with the requirements set forth by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
