(PI: Prof. Piotr Oleskowicz-Popiel, https://www.linkedin.com/in/popopiel/)
Country: Poland
Organisation/Company: Poznan University of Technology
Department: Institute of Environmental Engineering and Building Installations
Position: Post-doc
What do we offer
A chance to join in a driven and young team Bioref Research Group (https://bioref.put.poznan.pl/) focused on development in the field of environmental biotechnology and recovery of valuable compounds from organic waste in accordance with the assumptions of the circular economy; mutual consultations and support; participation in national and international conferences.
Project description
The main aim of the project is to carry out in-depth analysis of microbiomes which could be applied in bio-based processing of organic waste and biomass and to explore innovative environment-friendly reaction mechanisms based on open culture fermentation for production of biochemicals. The project investigates biological production of medium-chain carboxylic acids (MCCAs) via chain elongation by open culture fermentation of organic waste. One of the challenges is to isolate microorganisms responsible for final and key intermediate products. The isolation of those will help to build, design, and test synthetic mixed cultures.
Main tasks: research conceptualisation, design and conduct of isolation of microorganisms from open cultures, performing analytical and characterisation analyses, preparation of samples for omics, bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data, integrated data analysis (including multivariate and network analyses), preparation of scientific publications, and dissemination of results at international conferences. The work will be a continuation of already initiated isolations.
