The Ion Management Science Lab at the University of Utah David Eccles School of Business is inviting applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship position. The Ion Lab conducts research and develops scientific, theory-based tools to help entrepreneurs, innovators, and managers solve complex problems and create value. Post-doctoral fellows will work closely with a faculty mentor on Lab-related research as well as their own research.
Successful candidates should have a demonstrated interest in the work of the Ion Management Science Lab, including background in the theory-based, scientific approach to decision making and value creation. We also have an interest in potential fellows with expertise at the nexus of artificial intelligence, decision making, and the theory-based view. Fellows will work closely with the co-directors of the Lab, as well as associated faculty and fellows, along with working on their own independent research. Candidates are expected to have completed their Ph.D. in Strategy or Economics by Fall 2026 or Summer 2026, depending on the candidate.
The initial appointment is for one year, with an option to extend it to a second year. Start date is negotiable but anticipated to be July 1, 2026, depending on the candidate's graduation date from their PhD program. Scholars are expected to be in residence during their tenure, participate in seminars, and contribute to the broader intellectual community. It is expected that fellows will teach one course during their appointment. In addition to a competitive salary and benefits package, scholars will be provided with an allowance for research/conference related expenses.

While all self-identify as Strategy and/or Entrepreneurship scholars, our research focus is varied as reflected in the broad range of journals in which our faculty have published in recent years, including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategy Science, American Economic Journals, American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economics and Statistics, RAND Journal of Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Research Policy and Science.
