About the Job
This position includes duties related to molecular biology, data analytics and manuscript development within a computational-molecular-microbiology laboratory, including: development and implementation of advanced molecular assays with metagenomic samples, to include use of targeted enrichment, qPCR, library preparation, long-read sequencing, Hi-C, and other protocols; bioinformatic and statistical analysis of complex datasets that include numerous types of data including 16S, metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, and enriched metagenomic; grant preparation and manuscript development.
Other duties will include: establishment of data-related SOPs and protocols; training of graduate students in molecular techniques, bioinformatic and statistical analysis.
Effort: 45% of time will be spent on molecular assays and analysis of resulting data; 45% of time will be spent on writing of scientific manuscripts; 10% of time will be spent training graduate students.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: PhD that included bioinformatic and statistical analysis of microbiome, metagenomic, and/or WGS data; Experience with basic molecular techniques; Strong knowledge of R; Experience navigating Linux-based servers through the command-line interface; Attention to detail and strong capacity for organization of tasks and workflows; Ability to work independently yet collaboratively; Strong work ethic with demonstrated productivity; Solid communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with life sciences research in the areas of livestock production, veterinary medicine and/or microbial ecology; Previous experience with advanced molecular biological techniques.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $61,008.00 - $65,000.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
